KARELIAN BEAR DOGS
 are known for their ability to keep predators (bears, cougars) away from their owners. These dogs circle around the owner, thus being the first to come across and then chase away any dangerous animal.

Please note:
Karelian Beardogs are not for everyone. They demand a lot of attention and should only be considered by people who are familiar with the ways of dogs, especially dogs with all the original instincts and behaviors intact. These dogs are not like the inbred happy-go-lucky average family pet. The are very close in temperament to wolves (wolves and dogs are the same species, Canis Lupus), meaning they are independent, quick thinking, and view the world in simple terms. They are very loyal to their pack (humans, if so socialized), but tend to see other animals as either food or adversaries. They can exhibit a Jeckle and Hyde personality, willing to accept anything a two-year-old baby will dish out but ready to tear out the throat of a strange dog or other animal. This is what makes them effective as Bear Dogs. It is very important that they know who is in charge at all times.
